Another walk in Port Louis Streets

On Wednesday I had to pick up some posts and buy craft paper and I thought it was the ideal opportunity for a walk through some streets that I am familiar with but I havent walked through in about 13 years. I used to work during my school holidays and since i had no direct bus from my place to there, I used to walk instead. This might conclude my walks in the capital. Maybe I should now venture out there ...

Anyway here are the pictures

I live next door to the hippodrome. I've actually lived next door to the hippodrome all my life but I've never really find it of any interest to watch the horse racing. Its always crowded and in the past going out on a Saturday was a nightmare because of the traffic caused by the horse racing events

But the view at the horizon reminds me of time passing and more and more taller and taller buildings being built

On the other side you will find the mountain ranges

One Bridge

Champs de Mars literally translated as Field of Mars ...

A peek at one of the old house opposite the hippodrome

Two Bridge

This is the shortcut that cars and people take and that cut like 30 mins of getting from my side of port louis to the city center

Not too sure about this

Here I used to work

My first job as a student when I was 17 was office sitting for an architect. But I did learn something from him. He showed me the right way to fold paper. It was a revelation and I still use that method

Another one of those bridge that was built in the french/english days

Follow that road up and you'll find yourself in onw of the busiest streets of the capital.

The hidden courtyard in Port Louis

So today I met with my friend/photographer Julien for lunch to talk about his upcoming book and his other very interesting and inspiring projects. See some of his photos here https://www.flickr.com/photos/jubyfc/sets/72157646243738226/

After lunch we took a quick stroll and we walked the same paths as I did a few weeks ago but this time, Julien wanted to show me the inside of the buildings that I (randomly) took pictures of. I have always walked pass those buildings wondering what they were, but today walking into them was quite an experience.

Our best discovery was this abandoned courtyard, where time stood still. The courtyard was found in the oldest building in Port Louis. The smell of old wood and the eerie quietness hang in the air despite the fact that a solicitor office was next door and the building was surrounded by busy main roads.

Lunch at Le Vieux Conseil

the wood on those staircase was the
kind you do see anymore

Inside the oldest building

The most unsafe balcony I've ever stood on and walked ...
It was scary, the wood wasnt solid and
the only thing holding the woods
were rusty iron bars. I dont think I'll
go back there for a walk on their balcony

Inside the courtyard

Abandoned and forgotten

Do the people who used this bench still remember
this place exist, this bench still exist

across the courtyard

how do you know you are at a good solicitor?
A picture of Che Guevara of course

Walking Week 04: The other side

So this week I decided to head in the other direction of the city and it was a bit of unfamiliar territory. I walk some streets am used to and then I was in a neighbourhood I've never been before. The experience wasn't the same as the ones I had in previous walks. There was a quietness that was a bit unsettling but at the same time I was also mesmerized by the silence in the air, I could hear the birds chirping clearly, at clearer than in any previously visited neighbourhoods. Not a lot of pics this week (fortunately) but a lot of thinking ....

I dont think there's any penguin there

this such a tourist snap - but i have few pics this week

a very special bus stop

unknown territory - more warehouse

probably more warehouse

Road to the south

Road to the North

Such a quiet neighbourhood - really liked the atmosphere

The roads were interesting, its was a labyrinth

downhill - you could hear the bird chirping - I had no idea where I was going

Tamarin tree

Abandoned old house

When I reached this spot I knew where I was and that was the end of my walk
